Our Sustainability Commitment

Manufacturing a

Better Future.

Sustainability is not a section of our business plan. It is the operating philosophy behind every factory we choose, every material we source, and every supply chain decision we make.

Our 2030 Commitments

  • 50% renewable energy across all partner manufacturing facilities
  • 40% reduction in water consumption per unit across partner factories
  • Zero deforestation materials in all viscose and cellulosic fibre sourcing
  • 100% of factories participating in living wage assessment programmes
  • 30% recycled or organic material content across sourced fibre volume

Target year: 2030 · Baseline year: 2022

Why It Matters

"The fashion industry is one of the world's largest polluters. We have a responsibility — and a real opportunity — to change that from within."

We chose to build sustainability into Alishba’s operating model from the beginning—
not as a response to buyer pressure, but because we believe the companies that
will lead the next decade of apparel trade are those who take this responsibility
seriously now.

How We Work

Four Pillars of
Sustainable Sourcing

Each pillar represents a domain where Alishba has built specific
capabilities, programmes, and factory partnerships — not policies
on paper, but systems in practice.

Environment

Climate & Energy

We prioritise factories that have invested in renewable energy infrastructure, monitor carbon emissions, and operate verified energy management systems. We track energy consumption data per factory and per order, giving buyers the data they need for Scope 3 emissions reporting.

  • 30% of partner factories on renewable energy contracts
  • Carbon data available for Scope 3 reporting on request
  • ISO 14001 environmental management preferred for new factory onboarding

Water & Chemicals

Water Stewardship

Bangladesh’s garment sector has historically been one of the largest consumers of freshwater per unit produced. We require all wet-processing partner factories to operate Effluent Treatment Plants (ETPs), and we actively source from facilities committed to water-saving technologies including closed-loop dyeing systems.

  • 100% of wet-process factories must operate certified ETPs
  • ZDHC MRSL compliance required for chemical inputs
  • Bluesign-approved chemical management preferred

Materials

Responsible Materials

The sustainability of a garment begins with its fibre. We have built a dedicated sourcing pathway for certified preferred materials — organic cotton, recycled polyester and nylon, lyocell, linen, and deadstock — all verified through recognised certification bodies. We do not accept greenwashing claims without documented certification.

  • GOTS-certified organic cotton sourcing programme
  • GRS-certified recycled polyester & nylon network
  • CanopyStyle commitment — no ancient or endangered forest fibres

Circular Economy

Waste & Circularity

We are building the infrastructure for circularity in our supply chain — from cutting waste reduction programmes in our partner factories to designing for disassembly guidance for buyer product teams. Our zero-to-landfill programme is currently active in 12 partner facilities, diverting fabric offcuts to upcycling partners.

  • Zero-to-landfill programme in 12 partner factories
  • Fabric offcut upcycling partnerships with local artisan cooperativesn request
  • Design-for-disassembly consultation available to buyer product teams

Independently Verified

Our Sustainability Certifications

Every certification below has been awarded by an independent third-party
body and is subject to annual audit. We make our audit reports available to
buyer partners on request.

Global Organic Textile Standard

GOTS Certified

The world’s leading processing standard for organic fibres. Covers environmental and social criteria across the full textile supply chain — from raw fibre to finished product labelling.

Independently Verified · Annual Audit

OEKO-TEX Standard 100

OEKO-TEX Certified

Every component of OEKO-TEX 100-certified textiles — including threads, buttons, and prints — has been tested for harmful substances that are harmful to human health. A non-negotiable for many EU retail buyers.

Independently Verified · Annual Audit

Bluesign System Partner

Bluesign Approved

Bluesign approval covers the responsible use of resources across chemistry, energy, water, and occupational health in textile manufacturing. Recognised by major outdoor and performance brands.

Independently Verified · Annual Audit

Higg Index — FEM & FSLM

Higg Index Verified

The Higg FEM measures factory-level environmental performance across energy, water, waste, and emissions. The FSLM covers social and labour conditions. We support factories through Higg self-assessment and third-party verification.

Independently Verified · Annual Audit

Global Recycled Standard

GRS Certified

Validates the chain of custody of recycled input materials from pre- and post-consumer waste. Essential for brands making recycled content claims on product labelling and marketing.

Independently Verified · Annual Audit

CanopyStyle Commitment

CanopyStyle Signatory

As a CanopyStyle signatory, Alishba commits to sourcing viscose, modal, and lyocell exclusively from suppliers who do not source from ancient or endangered forests — protecting biodiversity at scale.
